  many here have abandoned the bible as "the word of god" and there are numerous reasons for said abandonment.

  however what i am interested in finding out is if the bible is the word of god, then what would you expect to find?.

  Yes, I agree, password. Imagine the absurdity of announcing your belief or non-belief in something by publicly dunking yourself in a pool of water. Utterly ridiculous, (no matter who does it).

  They have their preachers, they have their fundamentalism, they have their bibles, they have their conventions, and they get really, really angry when people question their faith.

  Gee, I must not be doing this atheism thing very well at all. I've never listened to anyone speak on atheism, I've never had the fundamentals of atheism explained to me, I've never read a book on atheism, and I've never been to an atheist convention. I hope they don't throw me out of their religion! After much private reflection, I came to the conclusion all on my own that there was no reason to believe in God. I admit, I was helped along in this conclusion by 40 years of reading religious material that I could find the logical flaws in even as a child.

  here are my thoughts.. it is pretty obvious that there was no global flood 4,000 years ago.

  ) that there were one or more large local floods in mesopotamia around the time of noah.

  Straw man. The flood being global or is not is not the means to discredit the whole Bible. Eg. should the fact that some of Dawkins research and hypothesis into and of genes is being shown to be outdated discredit all of his research?

  No, but then Dawkins doesn't claim to be perfect, all knowing, or that it's impossible for him to make a mistake. Whereas the Bible claims that ALL scripture is inspired of God (including the flood story) and it claims that is impossible for God to lie.

  A hypothesis, by it's very definition, is an unproven supposition. Does the Bible claim to be an unproven supposition or the inerrant word of God? You can't have it both ways. That's what the WTBTS does. They are God's divinely inspired prophet when they are laying down the law, but when their prophesies fail, they are just imperfect men who never claimed to speak directly for God.

  Plus the Bible DOES contain mistakes since it was written by Humans but never the less this does not cancel the Divine Inspiration of the Bible

  If you admit the Bible does contain mistakes because it was written by humans, on the basis of what evidence to you claim it is inspired?

  Reniaa, it has everything to do with JW's if they perpetuate a culture in which women are submissive to their husbandly "owners" and viewed as expendable to the organization to the point of shunning rape victims and pedophile victims whose only crime is to speak out about their shame and bring reproach upon Jehovah's organization. That makes them part of the problem that this thread is addressing, not part of the solution.
